The Trouble with Finding the Perfect Pen

“I have a scratchy pen and I can’t write love-letters with a scratchy pen … or a sharp pen … or a stub pen. So you’ll only get that kind of letter from me when I have exactly the right kind of pen.” – Anne Gilbert, Anne of Windy Poplars

Unlike Anne, you cannot really get any kind of letter from me unless I have exactly the right kind of pen. The right kind of pen being a Uni-Ball Signo RT 0.38 with blue-black ink. I have had this pen since I was in Secondary School in Singapore.

My beloved Uni-Ball Signo on a bed of accounting textbooks

Filled with the red ink of corrective justice!

Right now, however, I am freaking out because my pen is out of ink and my midterms start tomorrow.

My. Pen. Is. Out. Of. Ink. And. My. Midterms. Start. TOMORROW.

MY PEN IS OUT OF INK!!!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

The frustrating thing about fine-tip pens in Australia is that it’s pretty much almost impossible to find refills for them. The only place that carries refills for the size that I use is Kinokuniya on George Street, but I’ve checked with them and they’re out of stock of UM-83s until next month, possibly because I bought their entire stock last year.

Right now, I’m scouring the house for a refill pack that I might have missed. Fingers crossed I find it. If not, that offer to buy 864 of them at bulk price is sounding mighty tempting…
